What is the Georgia Disability Vote Project?
GDVP is a coalition of disability groups committed to expanding the participation of people with disabilities and disability advocates in the election process.
Who belongs to GDVP?
GDVP has a varied membership of low-income individuals with disabilities and organizational members such as community rehabilitation programs, advocacy groups, hospitals, independent living centers, and more.
What does GDVP do exactly?
GDVP builds visible societal participation and political capital by:
- increasing voter registration in the disability community
- encouraging disability community members to vote
- educating on disability issues, and
- measuring and leveraging these efforts.
What is GDVP planning for the upcoming election?
GDVP members will be focusing their collective energy on two areas during the 2008 election:
- Voter Education
- Candidate survey
- Distribution of voter guides
- Candidate forums for statewide constitutional officers
- Voter Mobilization
- Reminder to vote on election day through phone calls & printed materials
- Education on voter-friendly features such as advance voting or absentee ballots
